Why is a company called “the firm”? The word comes from Latin I will sign, which means to make something firm or provide stability. In commercial law, a company’s signature is the name by which it identifies itself and assumes liability: what is signed is binding. That is why, ultimately, an organization is only as valuable as its signature.
Your “I Am, Inc.”—the personal company you founded the day you were born—works the same way. Compare two statements about the same event: “I had to change jobs” and “I decided to change jobs.” The path and the tools are the same; the only difference is “LIFE”: the Will and Intention to Decide to Act. The difference doesn’t lie in the circumstances, but in who signs off on the action. That is agency: the ability to put your signature on your own existence. Those who don’t sign off don’t take the lead; things simply happen to them.
This complete surrender to taking ownership of your reality connects us to the poem “Defeat” by Kahlil Gibran (The Madman, 1918). The author describes his defeat not as a loss, but as a dazzling declaration of his own sovereignty, in which he stands tall in the sun, driven by a single will. Likewise, in the Gospel, Jesus holds us to this standard of radical consistency by teaching us that our word must be firm and transparent: let our “yes” be yes, and our “no” be no (Matthew 5:37).
And here lies the hidden wisdom: “God said, ”Let there be…“ and it was so” (Genesis 1). That is why this personal organization is called “Mi Vida S.A.S.”: because your existence is your greatest enterprise. And a life, just like a company, is worth exactly what the word that says “yes”—or says “no”—is worth.
