What is personal life? We think we know, until we try to define it. We could say it’s that part of our existence that literally bears our signature: what only you experience, decide, and are responsible for.
We often confuse it with “private life,” thinking it’s just free time after work. But work life is also personal, because in the end, you’re the one responsible for every action and decision. It’s not just a schedule to follow; it’s the dimension that cuts across all schedules. And that confusion, which has persisted for years, is the gateway to The Silent Bankruptcy: Everything works on paper, except for the signature.
This reflection has its roots in the poem “The Perfect World” by Gibran Khalil Gibran (1918). With irony, the author describes an automated society where people work, love, play, and sin under strict rules and predetermined schedules that stifle the soul’s authenticity. In the face of this machinery, Gibran identifies himself as a beautiful “human chaos.”.
The fact is, real life is always lived in the first person. It’s not about the circumstances you’ve been dealt—the era, your body, your family, or your financial situation—but about how you choose to navigate them.
Your life is non-transferable. You can delegate tasks and responsibilities, but no one can love, forgive, or believe on your behalf. A company has a legal representative, but in your life, there are no delegates. You are not a resume; you are a story of your own making.
As the Master Jesus rightly said: What good is it for you to gain the whole world if you lose your life? Understanding this is essential: your personal life is the only thing you can lose while trying to gain everything else.
If your life bears your signature, it deserves its own script as well. Our free course Start Your Own Life Company It guides you step by step through the process of putting them in writing. Pre-registration is now open.
